It happens on El Cap as well. And your students will come out of your lab with experience with another tool. Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to achieve this? It may work perfectly in Pages or Numbers, but Microsoft made this decision on the basis of files stored in the cloud. When I open such a document in Word 2016, I cannot edit the equations any more.
That's not the same - that preference allows you to collect a list of your mistypings, then enter them one by one into that 'Replace with' list. Unfortunately, the location of Word's startup folder sometimes varies from one computer to the next. I inquired of Design Science on July 9, and the response was not promising. It still reopens my files for me, so I usually haven't lost too much, but it's troubling. I take it that I shouldn't look to Office 2016 for improvements? It is intentionally disabled in Office 2016, because it apparently wouldn't work with files stored in the cloud.
It is very frustrating, because I work in the math department of a university and type numerous equations for tests and exams. I use and am happy with MathType for these equations. You know, Microsoft, sometimes we might want to keep the data somewhere else, like on an external drive. On her laptop she has 2016 as well. Since real-time co-authoring multiple owners from their desktop display work concurrently on one file of PowerPoint or word. You need not to reinstall and installing this is easier. I do find myself gravitating towards Office 2011. If there is touchscreen method in the pc, you can use its point and click editing features. I know no reason why they got rid of it. I'll be more specific than that and say I estimate it will be 8-12 more weeks. Not just in visual fashion, but also in functionality. They have not fixed anything on the Mac side, Office 2011. Of course, if all your collaborators are using something else, that might be the easier thing to stick with.
I use Windows at work, so switching back and forth between Office 2013 for Windows at work and Office 2011 for Mac at home caused significant productivity hits. Besides, it was launched in 5 different editions called as Student and Home, Business and Home, Professional, Standard, Professional Plus edition. Works very well in Keynote. By entering new product key, you can upgrade this easily. If the first one doesn't work, try the next, etc.

If, however, you are looking to work live in your documents, then Apple Pages is a possible solution already available to you. Office 2011 worked, but the differences between the Mac and Windows versions of Office were a frequent source of frustration. More than 30 years ago I took a LaTeX class and used it for a while.
